Hello new parents!!! Welcome to St.
Teresa’s! We are so excited to meet you. My name is Carolyn Schroder and my
partner is Amanda Munk. Your email was given to us as a Parent of a NEW student
at St. Teresa’s in the Fall.
What we do: A “new parents liaison” is a person who works to bridge
the communication between school and home. Often parents feel uncomfortable and
sometimes embarrassed asking questions to the school administration or their
child’s teacher. While we highly encourage you to do so if you should so
desire, because our staff is so incredible, we also want you to have a fellow
semi-seasoned parent to come to. It is so important to be in the know, so we
will work with you to make sure you feel informed. If there is something that
of which would be confusing or unfamiliar to a new parent- our job is to send
out clarification. In our minds, this is a proactive position. We want to get
to you before you even know you have questions. We want your entry into St.
Teresa’s to be smooth and transparent.
Who we are: We are new parents too. Once lost in the sauce, we figured
it out by leaning on each other and asking way too many questions. Parent
involvement is what makes this school special and we believe is critical in a
good learning environment. I had a new first grader and kindergartener
last year, and Amanda had a new Kindergartener two years ago.
How will we communicate: Our main source of communication will be via email. But we
will join Ms. Burger in the first parent school meetings so we can introduce
ourselves formally. Throughout the year we will send you emails to explain an
event or activity ahead on the calendar. Also emails will be sent out
periodically, to check in and see if you have any questions. If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to call or email either one of us.
We realize this is a lot of information
to digest and a lot to purchase. It is very intimidating but what a relief to
be ready and prepared for the first day of school! Please do not forget to use
the uniform closet upstairs in the office. You are welcome to look and see if
anything fits your child. No donation or bribe required for using the uniform
closet. We know exactly how you are feeling right now and want to assure you-
we are here to help. This job and position is new to us as well and we are
creating it as we go- so we welcome feedback and any questions to help make us
better liaisons for you! You will be given a parent handbook at the beginning
of the year- but we are here for more specific questions.
Again, we look forward to aiding you in
this new journey at our school!
Carolyn Schroder
